Mason Mount believes Chelsea can now claim to be the best team in the world following their Champions League final victory over Manchester City.

Mount's excellent through-ball set up Kai Havertz for the game's only goal in the first half at Porto's Estadio do Dragao.

Chelsea advanced to the final by defeating newly crowned Spanish champions Atletico Madrid, Porto, and Real Madrid in the knockout stages.

Mount, a Chelsea fan who came through the club's academy, told BT Sport: "As a kid, I dreamed of going all the way, making a final, and winning it; that's what this cup is all about."

"I was there as a kid, and now to go all the way in the Champions League, through some tough games – we've played some top teams – and now we're in the final and we've won, it's such a special occasion."

"We're the best team in the world right now, and you can't take that away from us."

Chelsea won their fourth game of the season against City, including the FA Cup semi-final last month, but Mount praised Pep Guardiola's team.

"City – what a team," he exclaimed. "They're difficult to prepare for because you never know what you're going to get because they have top, top players and it's such a tough game."

"They gave it their all, just like we did." My post-game celebrations were cut short because I went over to them. I'm aware of what they've given.

"They deserved to be here based on their performance this season."

Havertz has struggled to adjust to life in the Premier League after joining Chelsea in a club-record £72 million deal last summer.

When asked if the winning goal was enough to cover the transfer fee, the German told BT Sport: "To be honest, I don't give a f*** right now. I'm the champion of the Champions League!"

Chelsea winger Another outstanding performer for Thomas Tuchel's side, Ben Chilwell, described victory as a "dream come true."

"We fought so hard," he said, according to BT Sport. "We knew it would be difficult, and in the second half, we fought for our lives.

"We'd imagined this moment, this sensation, and it's simply incredible. That's why I came to Chelsea. It's a fantasy come true.

"We got tired as the game progressed, but when the Champions League is on the line, it doesn't really matter."
