Last season, the Foxes were in a similar situation but lost to Manchester United to finish fifth. Though, Brendan Rodgers' men had been in the top four all season, but a string of poor results near the end of the season allowed their rivals to close the gap.
They entered Sunday's game outside the top four but knew they could fight their way back if results went their way. Leicester took the lead in the 18th minute thanks to a penalty kick from Jamie Vardy, the goal propelled Rodgers' side back into the top four as Chelsea played a goalless draw at Villa Park.
However, four minutes after the break, Harry Kane equalized to send Leicester back to fifth place, after learning that Chelsea were trailing Villa, Leicester only needed to win to finish in the top four.
They appeared to have gotten the message, as Vardy put them ahead again from the penalty spot seven minutes after the break. It got better for them when Chelsea fell behind by two goals at Villa Park.
Spurs scored three times in the final 15 minutes, including an own goal by Kasper Schmeichel and a Gareth Bale brace, to knock Leicester out of the top four.
